Margaret Atwood to be honored at 2018 Canadian Screen Awards in Toronto

Margaret Atwood will receive the Academy Board of Directors’ Tribute for “her commitments to the growth of the Canadian media industry.” The awards will be held March 11, 2018 in Toronto. Hulu Adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale Wins 4 Emmys!

At the recent 2017 Emmys, Hulu’s adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale won the night, with four awards:

Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (Bruce Miller)

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Elizabeth Moss)

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Ann Dowd)

Atwood has won PEN Pinter Free-Speech Prize

Margaret Atwood has won the PEN Pinter Free-Speech prize for her work championing environmental causes.The award was established in 2009 in honor of Harold Pinter.

MAS-sponsored panel at MLA Friday, Jan. 10

If you’re coming to the MLA convention this week in Chicago, be sure to attend our panel on Friday on Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam trilogy. Directly after the panel, the Margaret Atwood Society will hold its annual business meeting. Come to the panel for information. Current and prospective members are welcome to attend! 

Dr. Karma Waltnonen, Atwood scholar and former MAS president, will be presiding over the panel.

The Margaret Atwood Society is an international association of scholars, teachers, and students who share an interest in Atwood’s work. The main goal of the Society is to promote scholarly exchange of Atwood’s works and cultural contributions by providing opportunities for scholars to exchange information. To reach this goal, we publish a journal, Margaret Atwood Studies, and we host several panels each year on Atwood at various academic conferences, including at the Modern Language Association Convention (MLA), Association of Canadian College and University Teachers of English (ACCUTE), and the Midwest Modern Language Association (MMLA).
